14 Stunning Details We Totally Missed in the Final Season of “Game of Thrones”

As sad as it is to say, Game of Thrones is over. People may have very different opinions on the ending but everyone agrees that the work the creators did was amazing. They not only left some funny bloopers, but also a lot of interesting references and details.

Bright Side searched for the most interesting Easter Eggs and details so that you can dive in the atmosphere of your favorite show again. Of course, this article is full of spoilers!

1. Melisandre is only the third character to die a natural death.

Game of Thrones is the show that became famous partially for its brutality: its characters died in the most terrible ways. This might be hard to believe, but Melisandre was only the third character that died a natural death: before her, it was only the Lord of Riverrun, Hoster Tully and Maester Aemon Targaryen who were not killed. We think you’ll agree that the Red Woman’s death was quite beautiful and logical: she accomplished her mission and died with dignity.

2. The dagger that was used to attack Bran actually saved his life.

The Valerian steel dagger that Arya used to kill the Night King has a very interesting story. This is the dagger that was used to try to kill Bran back in Season One. He was saved by his mother Catelyn and direwolf Summer. The dagger belonged to Petyr Baelish who convinced Catelyn that it belonged to Tyrion Lannister, so he was accused of trying to kill Bran. This was the reason why the war of the Five Kingdoms started. In the end, the dagger returns to Little Finger who gives it to Bran Stark and he gives it to Arya.

3. Daenerys was saved with the Valerian steel swords from House Tarly.

Do you remember the moment when Daenerys gave Randyll Tarly and his son Dickon a chance to bend the knee to avoid execution? They refused and she burned them. They were the father and brother of Sam Tarly. For centuries, their family had had a Valerian steel sworn that was called Heartsbane. When Sam left his home, he took it, and later gave it to Jorah Mormont before the battle with the dead. Jorah used the Tarly family sword to save Daenerys life since she was on the ground without her dragon.

4. Tyrion and Bronn had the same crossbow.

The crossbow that Quburn gave Bronn to kill Tyrion and Jaime was chosen for a reason: it was the same crossbow Tyrion once used to kill his father. By the way, the same crossbow once belonged to Joffrey.

5. The same balcony

Many people didn’t like the fact that during the attack on King’s Landing in episode 5, Cersei was just standing on the balcony, watching, and doing nothing. But there is a small Easter Egg here: this balcony was the exact same balcony she was watching the Great Sept of Baelor explode from, along with her enemies. But that was a moment of triumph for Cersei and season 8 was her defeat.

6. The comparisons between the first and the last scenes of the show

The show starts with a scene where 3 horse riders are going beyond the Wall and the show ends with the same scene but the people are different and they go together with the wildlings. The situation beyond the Wall is very different now. By the way, they leave Castle Black and the Night King destroyed the Wall near the East Watch, this is why we see the Wall intact.

7. Jon rode the dragon that was named after his father.

Daenerys named her dragons after the most important men in her life: Drogon — after her husband Khal Drogo, Viserion — after her brother Viserys, and Rhaegal — after her brother Rhaegar. And as we know, Rhaegar Targaryen was the real father of Jon Snow. This is why it’s cute that Jon rode the dragon named after his father.

8. Tyrion suggests having a calm life in Pentos several times.

In season 4, Tyrion asks his lover Shae to run away with him to Pentos. She refused and the end of the story was very sad. In season 8, Tyrion did the same for Jaime and Cersei: he prepared a boat for them, let Jaime go free, and gave them a chance to go to Pentos. Also, this way Tyrion repaid Jaime’s debt: he had once freed him from prison. Unfortunately, nobody ever made it to Pentos.

9. Similar crowns

Take a closer look at Sansa’s crown during her coronation: it looks very much like the crown of her enemy — Cersei.

10. Cersei’s prophecy came true. And so did Jaime’s wish.

The show’s fans had a lot of theories about how Cersei would die, but we think that the creators surprised everyone. According to the prophecy, the Queen was supposed to die by the hands of Valonqar which is High Valyrian for “little brother.” The prophecy said, “And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat, and choke the life from you.” Well, the prophecy did come true: Jaime who is several minutes younger than his sister actually wrapped his hands around her throat moments before both of them were buried under the building.

By the way, Jaime once told Bronn that he would love to die in the hands of a woman he loved. This also came true.

11. Daenerys’s vision also came true.

In season 2, Daenerys was in the House of the Undying where she had a vision: she comes into a destroyed room in the Red Keep, snow is falling (or ashes?). A woman comes to the Throne but doesn’t touch it. In the final episode, we see this vision coming true and Daenerys finally touching the throne.

12. The creators’ cameo

In episode 4, we see a scene where Tormund says a lot of good words about Jon Snow. And behind his back, there were several wildlings and Davos. Among the wildlings, there were the creators of Game of Thrones, Dan Weiss and David Benioff.

13. The book Sam brings at the end of the show is called A Song of Ice and Fire for a reason.

During the first Small Council meeting, Sam Tarly brings a record that tells the story of the events since the moment King Robert dies, so pretty much everything we’ve seen in the show. Sam helped to make the name of the book more poetic, so it’s called A Song of Ice and Fire, just like George Martin’s book series.

14. King Bran the Broken uses the Three-Eyed Raven sigil

On Brienne’s armor, you can see the sigil of the new King: Bran chose the Three-Eyed Raven as the sigil instead of the Stark wolf, like we would have thought.
